What happened when I went to see my MP

{summary}One person who has canvassed her MP is Judit Jakab. Here she describes what happened:
" Meeting Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar and Canning Town was a very pleasant experience. When I arrived the hall was full of families and children running up an down. He was buried with papers and looked extremely busy. When my turn came I was very excited and thought this is my chance to do my part in fighting climate change! He told me that it should be a longer conversation over a tea but he had as little time as 10 minutes. I went prepared, taking documents on climate change and on the canvassyourmp campaign. I also knew that Jim had political interest in poverty hence he was very familiar with issues affecting it such as climate change. He expressed his concern and explained the complexity of this issue which should be addressed more seriously at international level as well as at domestic level. He ensured me that the government was making sure that the bill is realistic and hence they were setting up an independent scientific committee to advise them on the CO2 cut back first for 2012 and then for 2050. Jim promised to send me more documents and I got the impression that he will follow the majority of the Labour MPs when it comes to amending the climate change bill. To my great surprise, a couple of days days later his letter arrived indeed detailing the government's initiatives regarding climate change. After his signature it was written: PS: Good Luck!"
Why not do the same and let us know how you get on!

{summary}A lot has been happening since we launched 'canvass your MP'! A small committee of MPs has been discussing the Climate Change Bill over the last few weeks, and over 80 Labour MPs signed a motion in support of an 80% target. In a vote, the Lib Dems and the Scottish Nationalists backed the 80% target, some Conservative MPs supported 80% whilst the lead Conservative spokespeople abstained. Unfortunately, there weren't enough votes overall to get 80% through at this stage. However, what happens next is that MPs will debate the Bill next in October/November. Lib Dem MP Steve Webb has tabled a further amendment to get 80% into the Bill, and there should be a vote. Now we need everyone to get their MP to commit to backing 80% - make sure you make that appointment with your MP now!

Canvass Your MP Launches!

{summary}Canvass your MP launches today! This campaign to help tackle climate change is about encouraging MPs to support tougher cuts in CO2 emissions. Scientific evidence tells us that the current 60% target just isn’t enough and that 80% should actually be stated within the Climate Change Bill.
You can get involved by speaking to your MP, finding out his or her stance and reporting back here on this website. If you don’t know who your MP is you can find out at the 'Find Your MP’ website.
Keep checking back for more news and campaign progress.
